EFT Couples Therapy
In a relationship, distance can gradually develop. Conversations seem to end in the same arguments over and over again, leading to irritation or, conversely, silence, and you don’t understand why the other person keeps reacting the way they do. Despite all attempts to connect, it seems as though you understand each other less and less. Relationship therapy can help break these patterns.

In my practice, I primarily work with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a scientifically grounded form of relationship therapy known worldwide for its effectiveness. Instead of focusing on communication techniques or resolving isolated conflicts, we look at what lies beneath the arguments, disappointments, and withdrawal. Often, these are deeper needs for connection, security, recognition, and closeness.

Everyone learns early in life what it means to feel connection and love. These experiences form the foundation of how we later deal with emotions, vulnerability, and relationships. When emotions are difficult to recognize or express, partners can unintentionally drift apart into negative patterns of criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, or distancing.

During therapy, you’ll gain insight into these patterns and learn to better understand the emotions and needs underlying them. This fosters greater understanding of yourselves and of each other. The focus isn’t on blame, proving a point, or who does the most, but on strengthening the emotional connection between you. When that connection is restored, there’s often naturally more room for openness, trust, and mutual understanding.

EFT couples therapy helps partners reconnect, break out of stuck patterns, and safely reconnect with one another. In addition, the process often leads to personal growth. Gaining more insight into yourself and your emotions can help you approach life and your relationships with greater strength, awareness, and confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Relationship Therapy

Can we meet first before we start?
It’s important to have a good connection with your therapist. That’s why there’s time during an initial consultation to see if you feel comfortable with me and my approach. If you decide not to proceed after that, you won’t be charged.

Who is relationship therapy for?
Relationship therapy is for all couples, regardless of age, relationship type, background, or sexual orientation. Every relationship faces challenges, and sometimes professional guidance can help you understand each other better again.

Can couples therapy help after infidelity?
Infidelity can deeply damage trust and cause a great deal of pain. Yet this doesn’t always have to mean the end of a relationship. In EFT, we explore together what happened, which needs and vulnerabilities played a role, and what’s needed to restore trust. Although it can be an intensive process, some couples ultimately experience even more openness and connection than before the crisis.

Does couples therapy make sense if we’ve already decided to break up?
Even if you’ve decided to end the relationship, couples therapy can still be valuable. Especially when children are involved or when you want to part ways respectfully. The relationship then changes form but often continues to exist in some way. Therapy can help you understand each other better, reduce conflicts, and say goodbye in a healthy way.

Can couples therapy help if I keep running into the same relationship issues?
Yes. Sometimes you may notice that relationships keep hitting a wall in similar ways or that you keep encountering the same patterns. By gaining insight into the underlying emotions, beliefs, and ways of connecting, you can break these patterns. This can not only strengthen your current relationship but also be valuable for future relationships.
